WA Residents: If You See Any Phone Calls from This Area Code, It’s Likely a SCAM
I like to think of myself as a savvy and techy chick. Heck, my phone even has a "SCAM CALL LIKELY" feature on it, and it has saved me from many phone scammers!
My phone also has started giving me a heads up alert that a text might be coming from a scammer, too.
The Washington State Department of Transportation just issued a new alert for Washington residents that we need to be on the lookout for.
Your phone's scam function might not even detect it!
New Phone Scam Targets WA Residents from Weird Canadian Area Code
It's not often I get any calls coming from somebody in Canada; actually, I don't think I've ever had one. I would be hard pressed to recognize any Canadian area codes.
Several residents in Washington have reported getting scam texts saying they are overdue on a payment to the DOT.
If you've had a toll bill and have been either putting it off or forgetting about it, you might mistake this scam text (or call) as the real deal from the Good 2 Go service that let's you pay your toll bills online.
I recently had an overdue toll notice, but it came in the MAIL, just like they did in the "olden days" of 2023!
I saw a recent Tweet/X from WSDOT (who have a great sense of humor, by the way) and it shared a screenshot of someone who reported a fake bill collection using area 902. (The tweet is below.)
Friends, I leave you with this cautionary tale: Unless you have any kinfolk or hot flings living in Nova Scotia, if you happen to see a text from area code 902 asking for money, block it!
Thank you, my work here is done.
