What is going up on Wenatchee's Riverside Drive & Worthen Street? You know, the area that was torn apart, by the 5th street traffic circle near the Wenatchee Loop Trail.

Throughout last year, the demolition teams were hard at work knocking down a large area of industrial buildings, near the Wenatchee Sewage treatment plant. Buildings that were torn down included: The former Lineage Logistics, J.R. Simplot & Columbia warehouse structures.

Construction teams, with huge cranes have been on site, with work crews working hard throughout the cold Wenatchee winter. It's seemingly only now, that I and the rest of us are seeing what’s finally going up.

So what exactly is going on, between the train tracks, Riverside Drive and the bottom of 5th Street traffic circle?

Last summer (August 2022) our friends in the Newsradio 560 KPQ newsroom reported on the Chelan County PUD’s plans to “refurbish to double the capacity of a substation on the south end of Worthen Street…to handle the growth in downtown Wenatchee.” The substation project was thought to be completed in the “next two years” (by 2024.)

KPQ gave the reason for the upgraded substation: The planned  “Riverfront Village Complex” of Five-five story apartment buildings.

These five apartment complexes will house up to 500 units and are planned to be ready for move-in by the year 2025.
CommercialMLS.com stated that the nearly 8 acre project was purchased by Arlington, Washington company “Grandviews Riverfront Village LLC” for $8.6 million dollars.
