Washingtonians Are Too Tired
According to America’s Health Rankings from the United Health Foundation, 32.4% of adults in Washington, report getting less than 7 hours of sleep a night. Compared to the rest of the US, we’re actually doing better than the national average of 35.5%. Still, if you think about it, that means 1 out of every 3 people could use more sleep.
My Sleep Battles
I’m one of those people who could use more sleep. I’ll be the first to admit that my diet and exercise routine are severely lacking. I drink too much caffeine just to make it through the day, and when I do sleep, I fall asleep fast! But heat and other factors (lately, a sick 15-year-old dog named Rusty) can wake me up at 3 am, and then I’m up for the long haul.

BONUS TIP: We all know about keeping blinds closed to keep your house cooler, and you might have known about switching to breathable cotton or linen sheets and sleepwear, but do you know about the shower hack?
It’s simple: take a lukewarm shower about an hour before bed. It’ll stimulate the blood flow to your skin and also help body heat escape. Once you get out of the shower, you’ll feel cold, and your brain will get signals that it’s time for sleep.
