MAV3RICK SPOTLIGHT OF THE WEEK: Tennessee Orange -Megan Moroney
There have been a few songs in the history of hits that if you were to start listening to for the first time, you’d wonder, ‘oh my gosh, where are they going with this story?’ There was the pop song, Clair by Gilbert O’Sullivan is one. Another song from back in the day was from country artist Jim Stafford called, My Girl Bill. Then by the end of the song, you get the joke.
Well, the same can be said for the Mav3rick Spotlight of the Week from new country artist, Megan Moroney called, Tennessee Orange. Imagine you getting a call from your daughter saying, “Mama, I’m callin’, I’ve got some news. Don’t ya tell daddy. He’ll blow a fuse.” You’d be thinking, ‘what the…?!’ The lyrics reinforce your worries, “I know you raised me to know right and wrong….” Now you’re freakin’! But after 90 seconds into Tennessee Orange, You get it. And you begin to say, ‘you got me me good.’ It’s one of the greatest sins to wear the colors of your father’s rival team. In the song, Megan Moroney falls for a guy and wears his Tennessee Orange t.shirt. The colors of the Georgia Bulldogs rival, Tennessee Volunteers. My own daughter and I mess with each other like this. Thankfully, she’s never fallen for a guy who was a San Francisco Giants fan. ;)
The question asked of course is, is this song a true story? And if so, who is the guy? The answer is yes, this was written about a real guy who’s from East Tennessee. When asked, ‘so whose shirt is it?’ Megan Moroney jokes, “It’s mine now.”
So who’s the guy? Apparently, it’s none other than, Morgan Wallen. But are the two dating? They’ve been mum about any kind of relationship.
Now it’s time for you give Tennessee Orange a listen and let us know, is it a hit or a miss? You be the judge on the Mav3rick Spotlight of the Week from Megan Moroney.
