It’s Official: Washington State is the Worst State for Gas Prices
Good news, Washington state is number one!
Bad news, it's not for a good reason.
California used to be king of the worst gas prices in the continental United States but as we kick off summer, CNN is reporting that Washington has now taken that number one spot. Yay us?
If you look at the glass being half-full, gas prices are down from this time last year, so that's good news.
But, still, when we're looking at average prices being around $5, it's no good. Not for anyone. Especially when we're thinking about taking those road trips to the beach or the mountains.
I was recently in Houston, TX and my driver taking me to the airport was complaining about gas prices in that area. He pointed to one gas station near the airport asking me how ridiculous it is that the gas station by the airport has higher prices for convenience. And it was trending a lot less than our typical stations in Yakima. He was shocked.
Other places in the south have gas around $3. Remember those days?
Now, like with anything, you just need to shop around. Some places in Wapato are almost always the cheapest gas prices in all of Washington State. I know some people in Yakima who make the trip to Wapato just to fill up, then turn around a come back. It's worth the quick trip if they're filling up a full tank. I don't blame them.
GasBuddy will usually tell you who has the best gas prices near you. And, of course, so many use those loyalty rewards to save even more.
Just know that when you see higher gas prices near you, you're not alone in this state.
