BIZARRE DRINK COMBOS YOU CAN GET IN WENATCHEE
I was talking with an Aut-to-Mocha Girl over on 5th Street (behind Jack-n-the-Box) in Wenatchee about tasty and crazy drink combos. And was surprised to learn that some of the most popular drinks at Aut-to-Mocha are beverages with Red Bull added. “It’s a great alternative to coffee.”. At Dutch Bros they have made me what I call, the Mav3rick Endless Summer Tea. Which is a green tea, with a shot of vanilla, and a shot of coconut. And I’m sure you’ve ordered a unique specialty drink at Foray or Jiffy Java or other mom and pop coffee pop-ups throughout the Wenatchee Valley.
Let’s not forget that after World War II, many service men, specifically after serving in the South Pacific started up tiki bars with mixed drinks like the Mai Tai, the Zombie, the Navy Grog, combining rum or vodka with fruits.
If you’ve ever watched the old 70’s/80’s TV show, Laverne & Shirley, their favorite beverage was milk and Pepsi. Today it’s known as a dirty soda. Perhaps you recently saw Pepsi’s holiday campaign featuring Lindsay Lohan with their Pepsi and milk commercial, calling the drink, Pilk. It sounds gross, but I finally tried it....and it wasn’t bad. When I asked around to places that serve up Pepsi like Dizzy D’s on Western Ave in Wenatchee, they told me that once in a while someone would ask for it. Pepsi even has a series of recipes for odd combinations.
But it seems like Coca-Cola owns the market on combo colas. They even the Coke Freestyle Machine where you can combine orange with Coke. Coke and lime. Then there’s popular Coke combos from other countries like the Inca Kola from Peru, and the Spar-Letta from Zimbabwe. There’s even a Coca-Cola flavor you can get that many people claim to be the worst tasting soda ever called, The Beverly. Which is a non-alcoholic aperitif and Coke combo...apparently popular in Italy. I have friends who try this drink whenever they go to Walt Disney World in Florida, and post a video on TikTok while sampling just a shot of the Beverly.
Then of course, you’ve seen in the grocery stores the vanilla Coke and mocha Coke. Here’s one you may have never tried before thinking it’s gross, that can be found on menus from Ruby’s and Mel’s. And you can easily get it at local diners like Owl Soda Fountain & Gifts. It’s my favorite, Chocolate Coke. Trust me. You need to ask for it try it. And it’s not something that can be sold in a can or bottle in a vending machine.
