#1 on COUNTRY TOP 30 WITH BOBBY BONES

Every Saturday morning from 6am-10am, wake up with Bobby Bones as he counts up the hottest songs in the country with the Country Top 30. You can also catch it again Sunday nights from 7pm-11pm on Kissin’ 977.

This week the number one is Down Home from one of the most diverse artists, Jimmie Allen. Sure he’s big in country with other number one hits like Best Shot, Make Me Want To, Freedom Was a Highway (with Brad Paisley), but he’s been heard on pop stations with songs like, This Is Us with Noah Cyrus.

Most people never knew that Jimmie Allen actually auditioned for American Idol during season 10, but never made it past the live voting rounds. When he moved to Nashville trying to make it in country music, he lived in his car, experiencing poverty. But he was determined to get heard.

He would later team up to tour with American Idol winner Scotty McCreery, where Allen was finally getting some notice. Then suddenly his song Blue Jean Baby was added to Spotify’s United States Viral 50 Chart. In 2018, Best Shot was released to country radio, and program directors, disc jockeys, and country listeners fell in love the ‘new kid in town’.

When the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper movie Star is Born was released, many artists covered the song, Shallow…including Jimmie Allen with Abby Anderson (who by the way, I think could be the next big rising star to watch). Personally, Jimmie Allen’s cover could have been played on country radio, but the king of country Garth Brooks and wife Trisha Yearwood beat them  to it, and became a mild country hit. Of course I wondered why the Lady Gaga + Bradley Cooper original didn’t became a country hit. Lady Gaga has proven to the world how diverse she is, singing any genre asked of her. But…that’s another story for another time.

We’ll find out next week if Jimmie Allen can hold on to the number spot in the US with the Country Top 30 with Bobby Bones Saturday morning and then again Sunday night on Kissin’ 977.
